Jackets take on the "U"

#23 Miami (7-3) at Georgia Tech (7-3)

Thursday. November 20, 2008. 7:30 pm

The Jackets fell to UNC 28-7 in our last game. Miscues and missed field goals were a big factor in Tech’s loss. We had last Saturday off which hopefully allowed additional time to pull our heads out of our rear ends. Miami comes to town with sole possession of first place in the Coastal Division. They can punch their ticket to Tampa with a win over the Jackets and the Wolfpack the following week. Therefore they control their own destiny. That phrase is almost as overused as ‘this player has tremendous upside,’ ‘we take it one game at a time’ and ‘it’s bigger than it looks.’

Miami has a 5 game winning streak. Their last loss was to Florida State on October 4. They won last Thursday night against Virginia Tech on ESPN. The Hurricanes have more success with passing than running. Their offensive coordinator Patrick Nix held the same position at Tech under Chan Gailey.

Although we lost last week, the road to Tampa is still open to the Jackets…barely. We need to beat Miami and watch Virginia, Virginia Tech and UNC lose one more game. UVA and VT will face off at the end of the month so that takes care of one team. UNC faces NC State and Duke in their last two games. And therein lies the rub.

We have two things going for us Thursday night. First, ranked teams in the ACC tend to lose and Miami just crept in at #23. Second, the fans will all be wearing white per directions from the Athletic Director. I’m not sure how you can get people to wear white with a low of 29 degrees. Where’s my white parka? The AD should have made it whiskey night instead. I know I will.

Line: unavailable at this time

Prediction: Coach Johnson says that a good team does not lose two games in a row. I hope we are good.
