Jackets take on UNC

Jackets - Phi Sigma Kappa We are currently working on getting homecoming pictures up on the site for all to enjoy.  It was truly great to reconnect.  Now on to the game day break down…..

Georgia Tech (7-2) at UNC (6-2)
Saturday. November 8, 2008. Noon

Last week’s victory over the Seminoles was huge and could not have been more dramatic. The ball finally bounced our way as we recovered a Seminole turnover in the end zone to seal the victory. Thanks to a Miami victory over Virginia, the Jackets are still alive for the ACC Championship.

UNC is off to their best start since 1997 and is bowl eligible for the first time since 2004. Their last game was a thrashing of Boston College 45-24 on October 25. The Tarheels rank high in the conference in several categories: Scoring Offense (2), Rushing Defense (4), Passing Offense (4), Pass Efficiency (1), Interceptions (1). They have had two weeks to prepare for our option based spread since they are coming off a bye week.

While their defense is pretty good, I do not think they are better than Florida State who had the top ranked rushing defense in the conference (in case you forgot, we ran all over them last week). We have two major injuries that will impact this game. Senior offensive tackle Andrew Gardner is out for the season with a torn labrum. He is our best offensive lineman. QB Josh Nesbitt sprained his ankle against FSU and had to leave the game.

Line: Tarheels -4

Prediction: With a key offensive lineman out and a gimpy QB, we will need the defense to create turnovers. The good news is that they can do it. I would be comfortable predicting a win if everyone was healthy. This one could go either way.
Tech 24 – UNC 23

Damn Glad!
